Day by Day Program

Day 1 - Arrive Nairobi

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and overnight at Eka Hotel.

Located on the Mombasa Road in Nairobi, close to the city centre and equidistant between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Wilson Airport which accommodates domestic charters, Eka serves as the perfect rest point for anyone travelling on business or transiting between airport and safari. Eka is very close to many of Nairobi’s interesting attractions: the African Heritage House, Nairobi Railway Museum, the Giraffe Centre and Nairobi National Park. Whether you are travelling for work or pleasure, you'll enjoy the easygoing getting-away-from-it-all-in-the-city hospitality: two restaurants, a cocktail bar - The Galaxy - a gym and swimming pool and palm-tree dotted gardens.

Overnight: Eka Hotel

Day 2 - Drive to Meru National Park

Today drive north to Meru National Park - one of Kenya’s undiscovered gems. This wonderful little park sits north of Mount Kenya and is characterized by open plains, scrubby thickets which are bisected by the river that cuts through the park and is fringed with the unique doum palms.

Overnight: Ikweta Safari Camp

Day 3 - Meru National Park

After breakfast, set out to explore Meru - this little visited park is truly unique and you'll barely see another vehicle on the game drive. There is the option visit the rhino sanctuary whilst on a game drive at additional cost. Inside Meru National Park, 80 sq kms has been fenced to create a rhino sanctuary. About 60 rhinos call this area home and are semi-habituated, which offers travellers the opportunity for some close up photos in complete safety.

Overnight: Ikweta Safari Camp
Meal Plan: B,L,D

Day 4 - Drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

From Meru drive around Mount Kenya to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy which is famous for its rhino conservation program. Arrive in time for a late lunch then do a game drive to the Conservation Centre and the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary. You can visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary which has rescued 42 chimps from terrible situations and given them a safe haven to enjoy the rest of their days in.

Sweetwaters is a luxurious tented camp on the 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta conservancy. Once the preserve of arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi – who used to land his 727 there – this is a millionaire’s playground that is now available to ordinary mortals. The game viewing at the conservancy is spectacular. Overlooked by Mount Kenya, the ranch has plenty of predators and elephants and some interesting extra treats. There is a chimpanzee sanctuary at Sweetwaters – the only one in Kenya.

There are just 39 tents at Sweetwaters, all with en-suite bathrooms and views out over a waterhole. Decorated in tasteful safari style, they are properly luxurious without losing any of the under-canvas experience. Since Ol Pejeta is a private conservancy, guests can do all sorts of extra activities, including bush walks and trekking with camels. There’s also a swimming pool and a treatment area where guests can enjoy a wide variety of natural therapies and massages.

Overnight: Sweetwaters Serena
Meal Plan: B,L,D

Day 5 - Drive to Lake Naivasha

After breakfast drive down the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha. Arrive in time for lunch and in the afternoon enjoy a boat ride on the lake. Cruise through pods of hippos and listen to the shrill cry of the Fish Eagle while on a boat ride excursion on Lake Naivasha. It is Kenya’s second largest fresh water lake and it plays host to a massive number of birds including kingfishers, herons, pelicans, fish eagles among many others. The boat ride provides an excellent opportunity to not only watch but also photograph the birds up close in a stunning and tranquil environment.

Overnight: Naivasha Sopa Lodge
Meal Plan: B,L,D

Day 6 - Drive to Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Arrive at the camp in time for a late lunch and an afternoon game drive out on the plains.

Fig Tree Camp in the Maasai Mara was one of the first permanent camps to be sited in this extraordinary wilderness so it's not surprising it's bagged one of the best spots; strung along the banks of the Talek River at a point where the river bows and bends back on itself, every tent - with its hardwood four poster beds hung with snow white mosquito net - has a riverside vantage point.

The Mara is the jewel in the crown as far as wildlife sighting in concerned; your game drives will be busy, exciting excursions. Back in camp you can cool off in the pool, climb the observation post and gaze at the spilling savannah around you, then unwind over an al fresco dinner and contemplate your day gazing into the camp fire whilst you listen to the chorus of the bush.

Overnight: Figtree Camp
Meal Plan: B,L,D

Day 7 - Masai Mara National Reserve

There are lots of activities to take part in – head out on game drives into the Mara Reserve, visit a Masai Village or soar over the plains in a hot air balloon*.

The Masai Mara plays host to the most spectacular array of wildlife. 1,500 square kilometers (580 square miles) of broad biscuit-colored savannah sprawls as home to huge numbers of birds (almost 600 species) and animals and is adjacent to the enormous expanse of the Serengeti; the two make up the most diverse ecosystem on the continent.

Overnight: Figtree Camp
Meal Plan: B,L,D

Day 8 - Masai Mara National Reserve

The wildlife here is unmatched and each game drive will show travellers a wide variety of wonderful creatures - many of which have not been seen on the journey so far.
